Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery
Introduction of the Department
The Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery offers surgical treatments against heart diseases (congenital heart disease, heart valve disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, etc.) and aortic disease (aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, aortic rupture, etc.). Most of the patients are diagnosed in the cardiopulmonary department and then, transferred to the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery if a surgical procedure is required. After the surgery, the patient gets transferred to the Department of Cardiology for medical treatment.
General thoracic surgery is a surgical procedure to treat a thoracic disease except the heart and aorta. Especially, lung cancer has a close relationship with gastrointestinal medicine, so its surgical procedure is made by closely working with the department of gastrointestinal medicine. Esophageal cancer has a close relationship with gastrointestinal internal medicine, so its surgical procedure is made by closely working with the department of gastrointestinal medicine. Thoracoscopic surgery has been used to reduce the number of surgical wounds, which accounts for about 60% to 70% of treatments for patients receiving general thoracic surgeries.
