For the first time in Honam and Chungcheong regions, succeeded in Da Vincci Robotic Surgery

As the first hospital to perform the Da Vincci Robotic surgery in Honam and Chungcheong regions, the hospital has shown great achievements in various areas, such as prostate cancer, kidney cancer, thyroid cancer, colorectal cancer, gynecological cancers, and heart diseases. Robotic surgery is a surgical method where a surgery is performed by a robot controlled by a doctor remotely and 4 robot arms that can move at various angles allow delicate maneuvers with no trembling of the hand. Also, the provision of a 3D-video magnified 10-15 times by the robot camera allows delicate surgeries to be done. Various cancers are removed with precision, the incisions are smaller than traditional methods of surgery, providing cosmetic advantage, and with a reduced amount of complications, recovery from the surgery is prompt. For thyroid cancers, the scar is invisible with the incision made under the armpit. For prostate cancers, damages to the nerves and vessels are minimal and the surgical complications, such as urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, can be minimized. Such surgery technique performed at Wonkwang University Hospital was selected as the Representative Excellent Medical Technology of Korea by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, confirming its excellence.
